In Colorado you may keep up to $60,000 in the equity in your principal residence and up to $90,000 if you are over the age of 60. Equity is calculated based upon a forced liquidation, as opposed to the best selling conditions for your home. Once you determine the appropriate home value, subtract the amount owed on all mortgages, and less selling and transfer costs from the value. We will perform this calculation for you. If you have more than this amount in home equity, a voluntary Chapter 13 may make sense for you.
